The Shark is Coming!!

Well, tomorrow is my internship presentation... Dr. Shark is coming to evaluate me. I do wonder how the visit will be like, since he's notoriously famous in class for his "grilling" (he uses that to determine our attendance!). He's a cool lecturer though... Hopefully and prayerfully will be able to get through this well =)

It's Gonna Be Over!

Internship is gonna be over. If my calculations are not wrong, it is already week 26 now and we only have a couple more weeks here on internship. I'm ABSOLUTELY going to miss internship and all the luxuries that come with it.

Here's why being on internship is better than being stuck in UTP:

1. Internship offers you tonnes of FREE TIME after work; UTP forces you to take tonnes of OVERTIME to complete your work.

2. Chances are, your office has lightning fast internet connection with mild restrictions; UTP has ITMS.

3. Internship gives you the chance to learn new things at your own pace; UTP crams your brain with an average of 18-20 credit hours per semester, half of which you do not understand, even after final exam.

4. During internship, the only reports you need to be writing are the weekly reports, of which normally you are allowed to pile up; in UTP, you get reports and assignments to do, practically every week. And that is just for one subject.

5. Over at the office, when you make mistakes, you learn from them and gain more experience; in UTP, your every mistake in the quizzes, tests and assignments leave a long-lasting mark on your CGPA, which overflows to your CV.

6. If you rest while you are on internship, it's your God-given right; if you rest while in the middle of a semester in UTP, for even one second... you sleep with one eye open.

7. During internship, you adhere to the rules and norms of the society and the company; in UTP, you have people trying to force their way of life onto your daily life, even if there's nothing wrong with your life.

8. (this only applies to some) During internship, you are in the city or at least in civilization! Your options for lepak and food are limitless; in UTP, no food and you need to wish those with cars will invite you along for trips outside to find food. =(

9. During internship, if you take leave or fall sick you can get a good rest and recuperate; in UTP, miss a day of classes and you will be stuck with a backlog of new assignments and missed exam tips!

10. During internship, you get double your allowance of when you were in UTP, plus Petronas allowance, without being burdened with tax. =D

All-in-all, I'm gonna be missing internship when it's over. So I'm trying to enjoy it while I can. To those having intern next semester, you will have 32 weeks to taste that kinda life, while I'm about to go back to the life full of tests, quizzes, reports and assignments... Hope I can adapt back to the hectic lifestyle though.

10 Hazards At A Construction Site: Part 2

The first post was about rusty nails and wooden planks. So what would be the best thing that can be coupled together with that to make it more dangerous?

Introducing Hazard #2 - Deceptively level grounds that disguise deep holes.

Think of it as an evil version of one of those Kinder Surprise (you know, those chocolates with surprise toys in them) chocolates we used to get as kids. When you set foot into one of those holes, I couldn't have said it better than Forest Gump's mama, "You never know whatcha' gonna get!"

First Internship Visit

Tomorrow. At exactly 9 a.m. is the first internship visit. Okay, that is the time my work starts. Makes me feel like I have to wake up even earlier tomorrow, and can't sleep until 8.30 a.m. =(

Well, I'll be getting my CIDB authorized Green Card tomorrow, which officially grants me legal access to the construction sites (when I've actually been to the construction sites so many times already!) .

Ir. Arazi will be coming but he actually canceled his visits yesterday because of an unexpected incident. I pray that he will be fine, and that the visit will yield a good result tomorrow, cause i'm not sure what i'm supposed 2 do.

The Most Pointless Thing I Did Today

I normally have my meals in the office. So my meals are kinda like "Kinder Joy" surprises that I get everyday. Never know what's for lunch beforehand. So I kinda realized that the time it takes for me to finish my meal varies from day to day. So, having a lot of time on my hands, I tried to derive an expression to determine the speed of my eating a standard meal.

The following is the solution I have obtained:

There are infinite variables that we can consider. However I have decided to omit the less quantifiable variables which will complicate the calculations, such as food dislikes, allergies, being picky etc.

Assumptions:
1. All food is at least acceptable to the eater
2. Speed varies from one individual to another
3. The meal consumed is not for luxury, but rather out of necessity
4. Taste (acceptability) and Portion are the only variables that govern the magnitude of speed

First, we isolate the influence of each parameter on the magnitude of speed.

We can see that Taste is directly proportional to Speed while Portion is inversely proportional to Speed.

Next, we combine the two variables to support the accuracy of the above method with a simple table.

where, -- represents, Extremely Low Speed
- Low Speed
O medium Speed
+ High Speed
++ Extremely High Speed

Therefore, I conclude that:-

Speed = Constant x Taste/Portion

Perhaps I may be wrong, but I guess. This means I'm probably thinking too much or I'm just too bored and missing Gf too much. =(

Proof The Weather Is TOO Hot

Was at site as usual today and I was feeling pretty sleepy at one point and I got the best wake up call. All of a sudden, and explosion came from the pile driver I was observing. A great deal of hydraulic fluid burst out from the pipes running towards the drop hammer and it all just evaporated in an explosive manner.

Even at a great deal of distance, some of the fluid sprayed onto my safety boots and my hand. Thank God that it wasn't hot. My supervisor said that thing can scald. *phew!*

Post explosion pile driver- Pretty much black

The spillage from the explosion

If you enlarge this picture, you actually can see the fluid (yellowish) gushing out

The Things That Tempt Me

Everyday at sight there is something I see that really tempts me. As you know piling is very boring, so sitting around there are many things you will notice. For example, racist dogs, unethical contractors, and plenty of foreign workers walking about.

However there is something that really tempts me and makes me hungry.

This makes me HUNGRY!

This really tempts me to catch one home! =)

There are LOADS of chickens though. When you are on site, you get hungry really fast and seeing those chickens just make you wannna catch one and cook them! *carnivorous instincts*
However, those baby chickens are really adorable and they just keep jumping around. Would like to catch one back but the mother hen would probably attack me as they're always with her. =(

Funny how none of them are yellow though

A Rather Weird Day

After days of sitting next to a piling machine, my piling work has come to a short stop as we have completed the final piles of the area. So today was rather unusual as most of my activities had nothing much to do with my work.

As usual, got to the office and immediately took a seat at the place that I rarely see except during lunch breaks and early in the morning XD...

Took a look at my "personal" file cabinet...

... Which isn't so personal after all!

So I grabbed my trusty helmet, and headed off to supervise the piling work.

After the short day of work at the piling site, I headed off to do some animal protection! Well here's the background story. If you look at the pictures below, you will see those 2 harmless-looking animals. One is called Bobby (brown), the other (black) I dunno. LOL

Anyway, those dogs were rescued by my supervisor (from the rain post and the cracked ceiling post). He rescued them from being eaten up by foreign workers, so they're strays actually. Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) were hunting them down today and the smart dogs ran behind my supervisor, causing him to jump like a monkey (that's literally what he said!) and narrowly avoid being tranquilized by what he described as "10 needles" flying at him.

These dogs are highly active and for some reasons they are kind to chinese people but chase the others. Racist dogs la. Haha. So anyways, to get them out of the radar for a while, my supervisor decided to send them to a remote storage area where they will take care of the stuff there.

We took chained them up and loaded them onto the back of a Toyota Hilux pickup and zoomed them off.

That crazy dog in the Hilux

Ganas fella bullying a puppy

When we reached, there was a little puppy there who was really adorable but really dirty. She climbed onto my trousers and left some dusty paw prints. Anyways, when the 2 rascals arrived, they immediately started to bully the poor puppy. They barked at her until she ran away. I guess they'll be having a hard time with one another. But anyways, glad we managed to save them. =D

You Wouldn't Want THIS...

My supervisor from that previous rain post inspecting the crack

Deadly piece of remaining slab finish

... To happen when you are in the house. The entire ceiling finish of a particular house in construction crashed this morning. Good thing it only happened after my friend went to inspect, or he would have been crushed underneath it.

And if you think that this isn't dangerous, take a look at that second picture again. Note how thick that remaining part is (At least 2-in). When the worker pushed that part of the slab down, it crashed so hard that another worker from outside the house came in because he heard it.

By the way this has nothing to do with the rest of the post, but this is somehow something that we learned in RC Design. Now I see with my own eyes! =D

A Day of Rest

Tomorrow, for the first time I will be having a little break from all the piling work. Today I was the only person on site supervising the whole place. Not even one of the site supervisors were there because they were too busy. But really thank God that the contractor and the workers didn't try anything funny when I was around.

Anyways I just did what I could and from what the senior supervisors taught me, just main hentam saja. But I believe that God allowed the day to pass without any incident, and to top that the weather was awesome today.

This reminds me, I need to share this. It started to rain the other day while the piling work was going on. Common sense will tell you that once the rain comes, it's a no-go for piling... Not unless you wanna get the bones electroculed out of you!! And once it rains, there goes a whole load of precious time from your hands.

So I shot up a prayer that God will hold back the rain clouds. My supervisor was saying earlier in the day, "It's definitely gonna rain... *some other expletives*," the rain got a little heavier from a drizzle when he repeated that. I shot up another prayer, and suddenly the rain stopped! My supervisor jumped from his chair and said, "What? That's weird... I thought it was raining," I tried to hide a little smirk. God had done it again. =D

Oh well, anyways tomorrow is a day of being in the office due to some world environmental day or something. Will be boring but I'll be counting down the hours to the time when I get off work and off to pg!!

Internship - The First Few Days

Have been pretty busy in the office, after a pretty much unproductive first day. Been following some site supervisors around the sites to supervise the ongoing construction activity all around the area of Setia Alam.

It's all about going under the hot sun and looking at people do the same thing. After a while it gets kinda boring and you just feel like sleeping. But it sure beats staying in the office! XD

Well, just in case you are wondering, this is what I'm going to be looking at for the next 3 months:

The two pics above are piledrivers. haha

Life in Setia Alam

Location: Fried Chicken (KFC), TESCO Setia Alam
Status: Stomach filled up with chicken rice set
Mood: Seemingly indifferent towards the fact that first day of work is starting in a few hours

Have been in Setia Alam for a few days now. So far I think life has been quite okay. Nothing much going on as I haven't started work yet (fyi, i start tomorrow =D) but anyway I just went to church today for the first time here. It's a church in Klang called Glad Tidings Assembly, which is actually Pastor Gideon's church.

The church is fine I suppose, the worship team does a good job and the pastor preaches quite well. I kinda learned a little something new today during the sermon which really opened my eyes. He shared from the book of Deuteronomy chapter 30 I think, about the anointing oil of God. The formula was specifically designed by God and He instructed Moses that he is not to reproduce anything like it.

This brings me to the point that really spoke to me. The pastor said, we are to manifest God's anointing in our lives, and not to manufacture it. Which reminds me that sometimes we unknowingly have the impression that the worship team is to create the presence of God in the sanctuary; but then in fact what the worship team really is supposed to be doing is to let God just work THROUGH us as a manifestation of His work IN us.

Okay, I think that sounded a little complicated. I hope you get what I'm driving at. Heh.

All that aside, I think life is pretty routine here, but my job is not to make it routine. =D Might be making a little road trip down next weekend. Hope it works out. *fingers crossed*

p/s: This is the 1st time here that I'm paying for my own meal. lol

Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning I set out on a 3 hour journey to Setia Alam. Packed all my stuffs and gonna load them into the car tomorrow morning. I guess this is the last post I'm gonna put up from my house in quite a while. Gonna miss the wonderfully fast internet connection. =(

For those who do not know, internship is starting this monday. Honestly I still have no idea whether I'm ready for this. But anyways, I would not be needing to wear a tie for the whole time when I'm there.

It's gonna be 5-day weeks, I hope. So that I can have my weekends free to go and enjoy. Whatever the case, I definitely need to learn a few roads fast so I can get to where I want to. =) Then can bring gf to go out more dy. =D

I've got my room keys already. And I've also got new matresses and all the stuff to squeeze into my small room. Being completely honest, I feel kinda uncertain about how I'm going to survive this 8 months there. Will I be able to adapt well with nobody I know working in the same place?

Nevertheless I know that God will be faithful. Regardless of what His plan is for me, I know it's gotta be good. Just wanna be able to enjoy the luxury of having NO CLASSES whatsoever for a whole semester and come out feeling great. =)

Oh yea, for those of you who actually do read my blog, do help me click on my ads yea. Need a little help as my account is still stagnant at the "zero" mark. *sobs*

AND AND AND...... I am super-duper jealous that my brother in Singapore has got as his birthday present, a KOP END TICKET TO WATCH LIVERPOOL IN ACTION AGAINST SINGAPORE!!! *shakes fists in anger* Will kill him if he doesn't get me  souvenir. LOL
